The Rose Fields of Grasse
Each May, the hills above Grasse erupt in pink. Centifolia roses — the same variety prized by perfumers for over three centuries — are harvested by hand at dawn, when their oil content peaks. It takes roughly 10,000 blooms to produce a single ounce of rose absolute. We source ours from multi-generational farms in Provence who still practice this exacting tradition.
Copper Alembics & Old-World Distillation
These copper alembic stills — some dating back generations — are the heart of traditional steam distillation. Heated slowly, they draw essential oils from raw botanicals with a patience that modern industrial methods cannot replicate. The result is a depth and complexity of scent that defines the difference between ordinary fragrance and true perfumery.
Calabrian Bergamot
On the sun-drenched southern tip of Italy, a narrow coastal strip between the Aspromonte mountains and the Ionian Sea produces nearly all of the world’s bergamot. Its cold-pressed oil — bright, complex, subtly floral — has been the signature opening note of fine perfumery since the 18th century. We source exclusively from Calabrian groves where the unique terroir cannot be replicated anywhere else on earth.
The Raw Palette
Before a fragrance is composed, it begins here — in the markets and farms where dried florals, resins, spices, and roots are selected by hand. Each ingredient carries the character of its origin: Bulgarian rose, Madagascan vanilla, Indian sandalwood, Somali frankincense. Our perfumers work only with materials of this caliber, because no amount of artistry can elevate a mediocre ingredient.
